ENERGY-EFFICIENT ESCALATORS IN U.K.
A new department store in Malvern, the U.K. features energy-efficient escalators supplied by KONE. The installation is part of Marks & Spencer’s 100-point, five-year plan to make its stores carbon neutral by 2012. The speed of the escalators is adjusted automatically based on usage, which KONE reports can save as much as 30% of the energy used to operate conventional escalators. The new store opened on June 26.
